My daughter, Mikayla

On 11/4/2021, another tragedy happened—an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident or crime. My daughter, at the age of 26, was not breathing. I went to her aid, called 911, and tried to give her CPR. The paramedics arrived and were able to revive her, but the damage had already been done.

At the time, my daughter was staying with her boyfriend, and he left when the local authorities arrived. Due to a lack of oxygen to her brain, she was brain dead, and her potassium levels were dangerously low. What happened here? I was confused, isolated, and asking, "Why?" Just like her 7-year-old son asks, "Why did my momma die?"

I looked at her phone, going through the good memories and hearing her voice. I found a text about a drug deal she had gotten involved in the night before she passed away. They called them "blues," which were laced with fentanyl, causing her to have a cardiac arrest and ultimately die.

I sent the phone to the DEA and spoke with them. They found the drug dealer (who was not her boyfriend), and he is now locked up. He will be sentenced on May 1st at the Federal Court Building in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She loved going on adventures, doing photoshoots, and being the center of attention. She was a cheerleader and loved being her beautiful self. I also cherish every moment with her son, my grandson, because I see her in him. It is my job to make sure he has the best and to guide him in the right direction.

She loved getting her feet and nails done. My daughter was not a selfish person; she was a donor. She gave her heart to an elderly man, so her heart still beats, and her liver to a younger woman.

I have a dedicated song for you to listen to called "Jealous of the Angels" by Donna Taggart. It's beautiful, for you and your mother!!!

I will be an advocate for the families of victims who have lost their children to these horrific, senseless acts. Victims do matter, and I will be on the front lines to make sure drug dealers are held accountable for the lives they have taken..

I will be doing a wreath to honor her memory for the same auction.
